Bio/Background

Dear Parents/Guardians:

My name is Mr. Mejia, and I will be your scholar's Sixth and Seventh Grade Physical Education teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself—both personally and professionally, as I will be spending about 24 hours a month with your child for the next 11 months.

I was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, I have lived in the U.S. since I was 6 months of age. I am a family oriented man, family means the world to me. I have two sisters, two wonderful parents, a beautiful wife and our first baby Mejia on the way :). I enjoy participating in different types of physical activities individual/outdoor activities such as (Golf, swim, hike, run, resistance, endurance training) Dual and team sports (basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, futvolley, table tennis). I have developed a tremendous love for the sport of soccer, I have been playing it since the age of 5. I played club soccer as a kid, High School Varsity soccer, won a state Championship at Cerritos College, and earned a scholarship to Cal Poly Pomona (Broncos). At Cal Poly Pomona I received my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology with a Pedagogy option. The last four years I taught at Paramount Unified School District, working with kinder through High School levels. Aside of teaching I also coach/manage club soccer, High School Varsity soccer (Pioneer High School), and College soccer (Cerritos College). I enjoy to travel, the last city I visited was Barcelona, Spain (Barcelona vs Lyon-Champions League Game). In the near future I will pursue a Masters degree in Education and begin my  fatherhood stage.

Through soccer and sports I have learned the importance of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. This year we will practice teamwork through team activities, learn new disciplines through physical education, and build individual progressional fitness plans to improve health. My job this year will be to create a safe and successful environment for all. Your child will learn the benefits of physical education, build individual fitness plans to prepare for the state fitness exam. Remember, you are the most important person in your child’s life, and we need to work together for your child’s benefit. I need you to support my academic, homework, and discipline efforts, and I will keep you informed about your child’s progress. With school and home working together, I know your child can have a successful year.
